In September of 2024, I was honored and delighted to attend my first Schloss Dagstuhl Seminar, #24371 on Extended Reality Accessibility. It was a truly inspirational event which has already impacted my thinking and research priorities going forward. (I even gave a talk on the topic to the Victorian branch of the Australian Computer Society.) When it rains, it pours, though, so January 2025 saw me back in the German countryside with 36 friends and colleagues (some new, some old) for Seminar #25031 on The Future of Telemedicine.

A brief introduction to Dagstuhl Seminars, from Schloss Dagstuhl:
"At Dagstuhl Seminars and Dagstuhl Perspectives Workshops, the most renowned scientists in computer science along with promising young researchers discuss scientific developments and exchange their ideas...Dagstuhl Seminars are frequently praised by participants as the most productive academic events they have ever experienced.

For me, it was a whirlwind trip from Melbourne to Singapore to Frankfurt to Schloss Dagstuhl and back again. I was not the only person who made the trip from Australia; Catarina Moreira, one of our co-organizers, came from Sydney and just barely pipped me as the person with the longest trip. (I just realized that we two Australian immigrants are the only ones on the southernmost step in the photo. Perhaps it was fate?)
I might revisit the details in another post, but for now I'll just say that it was another fantastic week of work, walking, and Werewolf at Schloss Dagstuhl. Thanks very much to our intrepid co-organizers: Andrew Duchowski (who sadly had to depart on Wednesday), Joaquim Jorge, Nuria Pelechano, Matias Volonte, and Catarina.
I've been spoiled of late, but hopefully this isn't "Goodbye" to Schloss Dagstuhl, but rather "Auf Wiedersehen!"
